New Team Member Training and Onboarding
Overview: This training and onboarding session was designed to assist managers and new employees quickly acclimate to team culture, tools, and performance expectations. The training combined interactive slides, live discussion, and scenario-based examples to reinforce company values and daily workflows.
I developed the original slide deck in PowerPoint and re-branded it in Google Slides for this demonstration. The session introduces core organizational resources, communication norms, and an overview of support systems for new hires. In this portfolio version, I’ve included a brief Loom voice-over describing the design process, a copy of the live presentation deck.
In addition, I have provided a short Canva-based mock-up showing how onboarding content could be built into an eLearning module in Articulate Rise or Storyline for LMS delivery.
Learning Objectives
1. Recognize the organization’s mission, values, and core expectations.
2. Identify key resources and communication channels for daily success.
3. Demonstrate understanding of team collaboration tools and procedures.
4. Apply materials to complete a “first 2-week training plan” and a "90 day training plan".
Tools: PowerPoint | Google Slides | Loom | Canva (Articulate Mock-up Slides) | LMS integration | OBS | Video Editing (ShotCut)
Design Process
• Analyze: Met with HR and team leads to identify new hire pain points and information gaps in the onboarding experience.
• Design: Structured a learner-centered flow based on the first two-week experience, emphasizing clarity, tone, and accessibility.
• Develop: Built ADA-compliant slides and checklists; ensured consistent branding and readability for multiple delivery formats.
• Implement: Delivered live webinar version for new staff orientation; gathered qualitative feedback from participants and managers.
• Evaluate: Collected post-session feedback and identified opportunities to convert portions of the live content into microlearning modules for future scalability.
Reflection: This project demonstrates my ability to design and adapt onboarding materials for both instructor-led and self-paced learning. By focusing on clarity, tone, and accessibility, I created an experience that engages new employees from day one. The blended delivery, live facilitation plus scalable digital assets, reflects my ability to connect instructional design principles with practical organizational needs.
Reflection: While this sample was developed in Canva, recorded in OBS, and edited in ShotCut for demonstration purposes, the same design can be easily replicated in Articulate Storyline or Rise. In a Storyline version, the slides would use triggers and layers for navigation, short scenario-based knowledge checks, and simple branching to simulate onboarding decisions. The design principles of clear objectives, chunked microlearning, and accessible visuals, remain the same across tools.
